Novel Approach of Employing Liver Dome for Real Time Motion Tracking of Tumours without Fiducials in CyberKnife® Liver SBRT

June 5, 2024

In this webinar, the presenter aims to:

  • Introduce a novel method utilizing the Liver Dome for real-time tracking of tumors without fiducials during CyberKnife® Liver Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).
  • Discuss the advantages of this approach over traditional fiducial-based tracking methods, emphasizing its potential for enhanced accuracy and reduced invasiveness.
  • Present clinical case studies and outcomes demonstrating the efficacy and feasibility of employing the Liver Dome technique in liver SBRT.
  • Explore future directions and potential advancements in the field of real-time tumor tracking without fiducials, paving the way for personalized and precise cancer treatment.

Bhooshan Zade, M.D.

Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Radiation Oncologist, Ruby Hall, Pune, India

Dr. Zade holds an MBBS degree from Govt. Medical College, Nagpur, followed by advanced studies in Radiation Oncology and Clinical Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. During his residency, he gained extensive expertise in high-precision Radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT, IGRT, Stereotactic Radiotherapy for Brain tumors, and Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy for lung and liver tumors. His outstanding academic performance earned him the title of University Topper in the MD examination 2009 from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

Furthering his specialization, Dr. Zade completed a DNB in Radiation Oncology from the National Board, Delhi. In 2010, he joined Ruby Hall Clinic as a consultant radiation oncologist, where he made significant contributions to the field. Dr. Zade is credited with pioneering 4D CT-based Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy for Lung and Liver tumors at Ruby Hall Clinic. Additionally, he initiated Perineal Interstitial Brachytherapy for challenging female genital tract cancers, both of which have shown impressive outcomes.

Dr. Zade’s expertise also extends to the CyberKnife System, where he has demonstrated proficiency in utilizing this advanced technology for precise and targeted radiation therapy. Treating lesions with radiotherapy emphasizes the need for cure or palliation without any adverse events, a goal for which CyberKnife System has revolutionized for intracranial and extracranial lesions. Treatment accuracy is ensured by tracking the tumor, fiducials, or other surrogate markers, such as organ-optimized treatments.

Dr. Zade has been actively involved in utilizing CyberKnife S7™ System for stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and he reports the preliminary results and toxicities associated with this approach. His experience with the CyberKnife System adds another dimension to his comprehensive expertise in cutting-edge radiation oncology techniques.

Also, his passion for advancing cancer treatment includes a keen interest in Breast cancer management, particularly in Extreme Hypofractionation (FAST FORWARD) and cardiac sparing radiotherapy utilizing the Deep Inspiratory Breath Hold (DIBH) technique. He has also been involved in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Total Body Irradiation for myeloablative conditioning.

With a commitment to research, Dr. Zade has served as a Principal Investigator and co-investigator for various study protocols. He has shared his expertise by delivering and chairing scientific sessions at numerous national and international conferences, further cementing his reputation as a leader in the field of Radiation Oncology.
